Welcome to the website of the Tehachapi Valley Gem
& Mineral Society.
“The mission of the TVGMS is to promote the study of
Earth Sciences with an emphasis on the collection of
rocks, minerals, fossils, and gems. To promote the
study and practice the arts and techniques of lapidary
and jewelry making while encouraging the opportunity
to exhibit, display, and exchange specimens. “
Our objective is to fulfill our Mission while promoting
good fellowship through education, fieldtrips,
projects, and meetings.
TVG&MS is a non-profit educational organization.
Our goals for calendar year 2010 are:
• Establish fully equipped lapidary workshop-We
are underway on this and should have a operating
workshop by the end of March 2010.
• Develop youth activities
• Organize educational content at monthly
membership meetings
• Develop new income sources
• Expand member base to Antelope Valley/East
Kern area
TVG&MS has an active membership which includes
geologists, gem merchants, a mining engineer,
educators, mine owners, jewelry makers,
silversmiths, flintknappers, lapidary artists and many
other knowledgeable people bringing together and
sharing a wealth of information about the societies
interests.
We have Society sponsored activities with monthly
field trips to the nearby mountains and desert. Guests
are welcome with a signed waiver of liability.
We have educational displays and fund raising booths
at various Gem & Mineral shows and community
events throughout the year. Some of our members
have a very well organized fossil, mineral and gem
displays that they present at school classrooms.
We encourage you to attend a monthly meeting and
consider membership. You can also participate in our
“Buck-A-Rock” sales as a guest.
